Back in your oupa’s day, beer was simple — cold, bitter, and straight to the point. None of this “notes of mango and passionfruit” business. Just a bruin bottle, a long day, and a proper dop at the end of it. But here’s the thing — beer’s come a long way since then. And our South African Pale Ale, or SA-PA, is proof that adventure doesn’t just happen on the trails. Sometimes, it happens in your glass.
So what exactly is an IPA? The name stands for India Pale Ale — a style born in the old British Empire days. Brewers packed their beer with extra hops (nature’s preservative) so it could survive the long sea voyage to India. The result? A bolder, hoppier beer with a punch of flavour.
Our SA-PA takes that classic idea and gives it a proper local twist. It’s brewed right here in George — where the mountains meet the sea — using local ingredients and plenty of gees. You’ll taste tropical fruit, citrus, and a hint of pine, all balanced with a crisp bitterness that keeps things real. It’s an IPA made for South Africans: bold, sunshine- ready, and full of character.
We like to think your oupa would raise an eyebrow at the first sip — maybe even mutter “dis nie bier nie!” — but give him a moment, and he’d come around. Because behind the juicy hops and fruity aroma, the heart of it is still the same: honest, handcrafted beer made with passion and pride.
So go on — crack open a SA-PA, take that first sip, and taste a bit of the George spirit.
It’s not your oupa’s beer… and that’s exactly the point.
Fresh. Bold. Proudly George.
